Want to make the most of your test drive?
Here's how to turn a quick spin into a proper car check that'll help you make the right choice:

Before You Start 
Book a daytime slot when you're not rushed. Try to schedule around 45 minutes - this gives you plenty of time to check everything properly. Make sure you've got your license and check your insurance covers test drives.

The Walk-Around
Take five minutes before jumping in to check the exterior in daylight. Open and close all doors, boot, and bonnet. This tells you lots about the car's condition and gives you a baseline for any noises you might hear later.

Inside Story 
Adjust everything - seats, mirrors, steering wheel. Can you get comfortable? Play with all the buttons, screens, and features. Pair your phone to the Bluetooth. If something's not working now, it probably won't magically fix itself later.

The Drive 
If possible start with a cold engine and listen for any weird noises. Plan a route that includes:

• Different road types (city and highway if possible)
• A few right and left turns
• A quiet street for testing brakes
• Some speed bumps or rough roads
• A parking spot to test maneuverability

What to Notice

• Steering feel and if the car tracks straight
• Brake response (smooth or grabby?)
• Acceleration (smooth or jerky?)
• Transmission shifts (automatic or manual)
• Air conditioning performance
• Noise levels at different speeds
• Visibility in all directions

Real-Life Tests 
As part of your test drive, try the things you'll do regularly:

• Reverse parking
• Boot space (bring a pram or sports gear if you use them)
• Back seat space
• Phone charging spots
• Cup holders
